I haven’t written in here since may, and it’s interesting to see what I wrote on that hot summer May. I wrote about embracing fear and eliminating boredom, but eliminating boredom seems to be a pretty easy feat these days. Living in Lima may have its faults, but there is rarely a boring moment and the last ten days in Colombia haven’t disappointed either.
I had a chance to experience my roots in Colombia- see where I was born and see the people who were a part of my life.Too bad I remembered nothing and didn’t have anything to compare it to. Everything was brand new to me, but I loved it! The really cool thing was that we didn’t just stay in Bogota (where I was born) but we went to the outsides of it and experienced it all. Well, not all, but some. The land, the food, the people, and the 2+ hour bus rides.
Bus rides. They were long, but beautiful and this is only a taste of the things I saw while on the many buses I rode.

The people
It has been 17 years since this lovely lady last saw me and her jaw nearly dropped when she saw how tall I was. She was basically my second mom and made sure the house didn’t fall apart while we were in Bogota.

The beautiful lady who brought me to Bogota to experience it all, my godmother!

and her farm.

The gracious, precious family that housed us in Bogota

And of course the food:

Colombia, you were so good to me.
Today, I choose to chase after fear and live a life away from boredom and idleness. Fear will not hold me down and I will live a life filled with courage and faith that I may follow the footsteps of Christ and not let boredom deny my God given right.
I’ve never really heard of First Aid Kit until today and listened to one of their songs ‘our own pretty ways’ and fell in love with it so i decided to look them up on itunes and found out that this song ‘Hard Believer’ was one of the most popular. I decided to youtube the full song since itunes only gives you a thirty second preview listened to the lyrics and then looked down at all the comments and saw stream of some pretty controversial thoughts. I’m still processing it myself so let me know what you think.
Love it or hate it teenage dramas have some of the best music on television. Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs, One Tree Hill. This list goes on and on. One Tree his in particular has had people from Alexi Murdoch to one of my newest personal favorites, Mumford and Sons. When I heard the song Timshel on the last episode of OTH I was immediately captivated by its haunting yet promising lyrics of hope and fellowship plus it doesn’t hurt that they’re English.
Yesterday I gave in to the idleness of summer and turned on the TV to watch Gilmore Girls on abc family, but to my surprise they had replaced the time slot with the all day Pretty Little Liars marathon. This is a show that I promised myself I would not be engrossed in, but after watching the pilot I was immediately captivated. It is your typical melodrama. It has all the ingredients to keep me occupied for 8 hours, ridiculously good looking men playing high school boys and over exaggerated lies and lives. The thing that really kept me going though was the music. Seriously! Here are three songs that particularly caught my eye…
Andrew Belle- All those pretty lights
Ingrid Michaelson- starting now
Katie Herzig Crazy
Yesterday we went to London, but felt like I was anywhere but England. We went to the Texas embassy for lunch and then I spent the whole day with my friend from high school and ended up in China town. It didn’t help that my feet were swollen by the end of the night so it truly felt like I had been all around the world! I wish I had pictures to show you, but my camera is on the fritz and I was separated from the group! It was definitely a jolly times!
Its getting harder and harder to update things because minutes seem like days and days seem like weeks. This experience is coming at me so fast in all different direction that its hard to realize what reality is.
Today however, I’m definitely hit by reality. I’m catching up on all the homework, reading and having to write two papers! Blah! I don’t really think that its going to happen today, but I’m going to try. I’m still an avid procrastinator. Cheers to refusal!
While procrastinating I did stumble upon the coolest thing ever!
Here’s a one to spark your interest…
